| Again this year, a huge crowd was on hand to participate in the National Shorthorn Sale. From the great number of interested buyers that analyzed the sale offering during the pre-sale parade, to the overflow crowd in the Beef Palace Auction Arena, this was a great testimony to the wide acceptance of today's Shorthorn genetics. This year's sale offering had many features beginning with a bull in the sale that had been named Reserve Grand Champion Bull in the Major Pace Bull Show just a few hours before sale time. Also featured were the pick of some outstanding pens of bulls and heifers from the tremendous pen show in the Yards the day prior to the sale. Couple all this with some very popular genetic packages offered, and you have the makings of a tremendous sale, which it was.

The footnote on this great youngster defined legit (legitimate) as authentic, genuine, based on logical reasoning. When you see this calf, logic will tell you that he is built for the long haul. Very structurally sound with the muscle pattern and optimum frame size to put it all together. He will be fun to watch in the future. Just prior to the sale he was named the Reserve Grand Champion Bull in the 2011 Major Pace Denver Bull Show as well as having been named a Spring Bull Calf Division Champion at the National Show in Louisville in November. Offered by Cates Farms of Modoc, Indiana, he was purchased by Up Top Cattle Co of East Palestine, Ohio.
$10,000 - Lot 8 - Open Heifer - HOMEDALE MAX ROSA 058 x - A white, polled May 19, 2010 daughter of Saskvalley Bonanza 219M and out of Homedale Max Rosa. This young prospect is just another in this great line to be a top seller when they are offered. She has the potential to be a show stopper in her own right. Offered by Kaehler Homedale Farms of St. Charles, Minnesota, she was purchased by Meadow Lake Shorthorns of Cornell, Wisconsin.
$10,000 - Lot 12 - Pick of the Pasture - A very unique opportunity here. Offered was the pick of the entire 2010 heifer calf crop born at Leverldale Farms. Leveldale has long been acclaimed as one of the leading breeders of top quality cattle that are bred to thrive in a modest nutritional environment and produce every year as mature matrons. These heifers would be the 2010 prodigny of a great cow herd that produced the Champion Pen of Three Heifers in Denver in 2010 as well as the top selling heifer from that pen in the 2010 Summit Sale. A rare chance to pick from the entire heifer crop from one of most genetically sound programs in the breed today. Offered by Leveldale Farms of Mason City, Illinois, this offering was purchased by Little Cedar Cattle Co of Beaverton, Michigan and Quinton Smith of Lebanen, Tennessee.
$9,600 - Lot 22AA - Package of 3 Frozen Embryos - Sired by SULL Right Direction ET and out of GCC Augusta Pride 3127. This opportunity brought the buyers to the front of their seats. The chance to purchase embryos from the great Augusta Pride 3127 means you are getting genetics from one of the truly top producing females in the breed today. $7,000 - Lot 16B - Open Heifer - Pick of the Pen - M BAR LADY 014X - A roan, polled March 10, 2010 daughter of M Bar Castlerock 722T and out of M Bar Lady Dazzler. Three outstanding young females were offered here that were also named the Grand Champion Pen of Three Heifers in the Yards Pen Show on Saturday at the National Western. All three were half-sisters and all three were extremely sound in their structure with the muscle type and femininity that made everyone take notice. Coming from a very sound breeding program, any one of these will make a great addition to a leading cow herd in North America. Offered by M Bar Shorthorns, Troy and Sommer Smith of Walton, Kansas, and purchased by Jocko Valley Ranch of Arlee, Montana.
$6,000 - Lot 1C - Bull - Pick of the Pen - JM LA Stiff Lip 62 ET - A rwm, polled, April 01, 2010 son of K-Kim Cash 224R ET and out of SS Sweet Augusta 885. This pen of bulls got as much attention in the pre-sale parade as any cattle displayed with serious Shorthorn breeders having each of the bulls pulled out of line to walk and to have a good look at them. This pen took some study as there was a slightly different type in all of the four bulls offered. The comment was heard that this was great as there was a bull in this pen to satisfy any breeder. The bull selected was extremely sound with just the right muscle pattern and extension to be a great sire in the future. Offered by JM Cattle Co and Arthur Shorthorns of Rossville and Greenfield, Indiana, he was purchased by Huberdale Farms of Lipton, Saskatchewan, Canada. |
