There is no question beef producers are constantly looking for ways to add value to each year’s calf crop. One of the easiest ways to add value to your calf crop is to take advantage of Shorthorn Verified. Shorthorn Verified is a USDA Process Verified Program (PVP) for Shorthorn and Shorthorn influenced calves. Shorthorn Verified consists of a combination of genetic and age and source verification. Participation is open to any calf with either its sire or dam recorded in the American Shorthorn Association - Shorthorn, ShorthornPlus or Durham Red registries. The age and source verification portion of the program will be completed by Micro Beef Technologies of Amarillo, TX. Micro beef will be responsible for auditing producers and sending out the program tags.
The Shorthorn Verified tag will allow your cattle access to age and source verified premiums. The program also verifies the Shorthorn influence of the cattle, so buyers will know they are buying cattle known for their performance, marbling and lower yield grades. Cattle enrolled in the program are eligible for premiums through the ASA’s Great State Feedout, major packing plants or special age and source verified feeder cattle sales.
