RECORD NUMBER OF SHORTHORN & SHORTHORNPLUS PENS EXHIBITED


The 2011 National Western Stock Show

OMAHA, Neb., (January 26, 2011) –Record numbers of Shorthorn and ShorthornPlus, the composite breed recognized by the American Shorthorn Association, pens converged on the “yards” for the 2011 National Western Stock Show (NWSS) Shorthorn Pen Bull and Heifer Show, held in Denver, Colorado on Saturday, January 15. Evaluating the competitive 24 pens of cattle was Chris Polzin, of Polzin Cattle of Darwin, Minnesota.

Sullivan Farms of Dunlap, Iowa claimed the Champion Pen of Three Shorthorn Bulls with three sons of WHR Code Red 8217 ET and SULL GNCC Asset ET these bulls posted a weight per day of age of 3.92 and an average rib-eye area of 15.2 square inches.

Jungels Shorthorn Farms of Kathryn, North Dakota exhibited the Reserve Champion Pen of Three Shorthorn Bulls with a trio of March and April bulls that posted an average weight of 1014 pounds.

In a highly competitive pen of five show judge Polzin selected Sullivan Farms of Dunlap, Iowa as his Champion Pen of Five Shorthorn Bulls. These five sons of SULL GNCC Asset ET, CF Solution X ET and TM Gus 36S ET had an average weight of 1304 pounds and an average scrotal circumference of 35.3 centimeters.

Sons of SBR Tsunami 20T were selected as the Reserve Champion Pen of Five Shorthorn Bulls. These moderate framed, easy fleshing, red polled fall bulls were exhibited by Jungels Shorthorn Farms of Kathryn, North Dakota.

Sullivan Farms of Dunlap, Iowa was once again given the champion nod this time for the Champion Pen of Three ShorthornPlus Bulls. These outstanding March sons of TEGM Red Advantage 100T posted an average weight of 1252 pounds and an average scrotal circumference of 36.5 centimeters.

Driving home the Reserve Champion Pen of Three ShorthornPlus Bulls was Jungels Shorthorn Farms of Kathryn, North Dakota with three moderate big bodied sons of Jake’s Proud Jazz 266L.

Jungels Shorthorn Farms of Kathryn, North Dakota captured the Champion Pen of Five ShorthornPlus Bulls. These powerfully constructed February and March bulls were sired by Jake’s Proud Jazz 266L and TM Gus 36S ET.

Reserve Champion Pen of Five ShorthornPlus Bulls was awarded to SODHOUSE Cattle Company of Brewster, Kansas with sons of LJC Valiant R233, SODHOUSE Valor 665 and SODHOUSE Lancer 606.

The pen heifer show ran deep in quality as M Bar Shorthorns, Walton, Kansas claimed the Champion Pen of Three Heifers. These daughters of M Bar Castlerock 722T had an average rib-eye area of 12.8 square inches, while scanning with an average %IMF of 3.99.

Reserve Champion Pen of Three Heifers was exhibited by J&J Show Cattle of West Point, Nebraska with three daughters of Jake’s Proud Jazz 266L and SS Rock On 812.
