What needs to be tagged?
All animals entering the state of Michigan must be tagged with the RFID tag number listed on the health papers. However, the Michigan Committee has worked with the Michigan Department of Ag to have tags available for purchase at the show and have animals tagged when they enter the grounds. Please be advised that you are still strongly encouraged to have the tags purchased and in the animal prior to entering the state.
Where do I purchase the tags?
• RFID tags may be purchased from any manufacture or supplier. Many vets have access to a supply of tags.
•Northstar is the company the Michigan Department of Ag has listed as a resource: 888-203-3398, however they may require a minimum order to purchase.
•Highland Livestock Supply, Curt and Allison Hively, have RFID tags available individually – call 330-457-2033 or visit highlandlivestocksupply.com.
•Michigan Planning Committee will have tags for purchase at the show to be tagged upon arrival.
What kind of RFID tag do I need?
You may use the US 840 tag, however that tag requires a premise ID number, otherwise any 900 tag number is accepted, without the need of a premise ID.
Which ear should the tag be in?
Universally the tags are most easily read from the left ear. However, there is not a stipulation on which ear to tag.
