OMAHA – (November 24, 2006) During Shorthorn events at the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE), Louisville, Ky., the American Shorthorn Association (ASA) recognized members for breed building leadership. This set of awards honors those families and firms that lead the association in various categories.

OMAHA - (November 20, 2006) The National Shorthorn Lassies named two members of Lassies of the Year during the American Shorthorn Association Annual Meeting held Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, during events at the North American International Livestock Exposition, Louisville, Ky. The event also marked the 50th anniversary of the National Shorthorn Lassies organization.
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY – (November 20, 2006) The 2006 National Shorthorn Show featured the best of Shorthorn genetics as breeders from throughout the United States and Canada exhibited 400 head – 329 heifers and 71 bulls - before judge Stan Tarr, of Tarr Simmentals, Leroy, Ill., and associate judge Harold Bertz, Meadow Lane Farms, Mayview, Mo. The show was held during activities at the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE), on Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, in Louisville, Ky.
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY – (November 20, 2006) On Sunday, November 12, junior Shorthorn breeders from throughout the country paraded 206 head, the largest junior beef breed show at the North American International Livestock Exposition, before judge Alan Sears, Eaton, Colo. This show was the fourth event of five in the Junior PACE Show schedule for 2006-07.
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY – (November 20, 2006) Shorthorn breeders consigned 22 quality lots to the 2006 North American Heifer Calf Futurity held during Shorthorn activities at the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE). After a fall sale season of record sale averages, the Futurity, held on Sunday, November 12, in New Market Hall, joined other breeds in posting strong sale averages.
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY – (November 20, 2006) Richard Hahn, Minonk, Ill., was elected president of the American Shorthorn Association (ASA) at the group’s annual meeting held in Louisville, Ky., during the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE). As president, he presides over one of the oldest herdbooks in the nation. An Illinois native, Hahn is in his second, three-year term as an ASA director and ascends to the president position after serving as ASA vice president.
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY – (November 20, 2006) The 23nd Annual North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) Shorthorn Steer Futurity and Breeders’ Cup was held on Sunday, November 12. Judge Lance Sennett, of Sennett Cattle Co., Waynetown, Ind., evaluated the 28 Shorthorn steers and seven Appendix Shorthorn steers.
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI – (October 26 ,2006) Shorthorn breeders paraded 61 head of Shorthorns – 53 females and eight bulls – before judge Jeremy Hahn, El Paso, Ill. The American Royal hosted the American Shorthorn Association Central Major PACE Show, held Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, in Kansas City, Mo.
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI – (October 26, 2006) Junior Shorthorn breeders paraded 24 head before judge Kent Habeger, Burt, Iowa, on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, during the American Royal, held in Kansass City, Mo. This show was the third event of five in the Junior PACE Show schedule for 2006-07.
HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA – (October 24, 2006) Shorthorn breeders paraded 97 head of Shorthorns – 82 females and 15 bulls – before judge Denny Jordan, Gibson City, Texas. The Keystone International Livestock Exposition hosted the American Shorthorn Association Atlantic Major PACE Show, held Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, in Harrisburg, Pa.
HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA – (October 24, 2006) Junior Shorthorn breeders paraded 43 head before judge Chad Wilson, Cloverdale, Ind., on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, during the Keystone International Livestock Exposition, held in Harrisburg, Pa. This show was the second event of five in the Junior PACE Show schedule for 2006-07.
OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA – (September 25, 2006) Shorthorn exhibitors competed for top honor in the eighth PACE show of the Shorthorn show season during the State Fair of Oklahoma, held Sept. 23, 2006. Judge Kyle Gillooly, Wadley, Ga., sorted the 77 head, including 61 females and 16 bulls.
OMAHA – (September 25, 2006) American Shorthorn Association members and Shorthorn enthusiasts from around the globe will gather at the North American International Livestock Exhibition (NAILE), Nov. 9-13, 2006, in Louisville, Ky., for the ASA Annual Meeting and 2006 National Shorthorn Show. Several additional events are planned during the four-day event.
PUYALLUP, WASHINGTON – (September 13, 2006) Shorthorn exhibitors competed for top honor in the seventh PACE show of the Shorthorn show season during the Western Washington Fair, held Sept. 9, 2006. Judge Jeff Sargent, Denison, Texas, evaluated the 27 females and 19 bulls.
SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA – (September 12, 2006) Shorthorn breeders paraded 58 head of Shorthorns – 30 females and 28 bulls – before judge Mark Ebeling, Cleburne, Texas. The California State Fair hosted the American Shorthorn Association Western Major PACE Show, held Thursday, Aug. 30, 2006, in Sacramento, Calif.
NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE – (September 12, 2006) Shorthorn exhibitors competed for top honor in the sixth PACE show of the Shorthorn show season during the Tennessee State Fair, held September 9, 2006. Judge Craig Steck, West Branch, Iowa, evaluated the 42 head of females and 5 bulls.
SYRACUSE, NEW YORK – (September 12, 2006) Shorthorn exhibitors competed for top honor in the fourth PACE show of the Shorthorn show season during the New York State Fair, held August 26, 2006. Judge Mark McCully, Wooster, Ohio, evaluated the 30 head of females and eight bulls.
ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA – (September 12, 2006) Shorthorn exhibitors competed for top honor in the fifth PACE show of the Shorthorn show season during the Minnesota State Fair, held September 2, 2006. Judge Chad Wilson, Cloverdale, Ind., evaluated the 84 head of females and 19 bulls.
BOISE, IDAHO – (September 9, 2006) Shorthorn exhibitors competed for top honor in the third PACE show of the Shorthorn show season during the Western Idaho State Fair, held Aug. 24, 2006. Judge Jim McDougald, Friant, Calif., evaluated the 52 head, evenly split between bulls and heifers.
OMAHA – (August 30, 2006) The second annual American Shorthorn Association (ASA) Proof Positive Feedlot Program once again proved Shorthorn cattle can make money for their owners, feeders and packers. This program not only exposes commercial feedyards and packers to Shorthorn genetics, but provides valuable data to the breeders who retained ownership of these calves. Despite extremely high calf prices last fall, six Shorthorn producers made the decision to commit calves to the program and retain ownership.
OMAHA – (August 15 , 2006) Shorthorn Country recently participated in the Livestock Publications Council (LPC) Annual Critique Contest held during the 2006 Agricultural Media Summit held in Portland, Ore. Shorthorn Country entered 15 items for evaluation and received four awards – a first place, a second place, and two honorable mentions.
SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS – (August 15, 2006) Shorthorn exhibitors competed for top honor in the second PACE show of the Shorthorn show season during the Illinois State Fair, held Aug. 14, 2006. In the polled division, judge Gary Buchholz, Bardwell, Texas, evaluated the 115 head. In the horned division, judge Ken Geuns, Lansing, Mich., evaluated the 48 head.
OMAHA – (August 15, 2006) The popularity of Shorthorn cattle among youth and dramatic changes in the genetic evaluation program are just two of the highlights of the fiscal year just completed by the American Shorthorn Association (ASA). With more than 6,000 members, the ASA maintained level registrations and transfers in the first full-year of genetic testing using DNA information to make breeding decisions.
SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI – (August 10, 2006) Shorthorn exhibitors competed for top honor in the first PACE show of the Shorthorn show season during the Ozark Empire Fair, held Aug. 1, 2006. Toby Jordan, Rensselaer, Ind., evaluated 84 head.
OMAHA - (July 10, 2006) Long-time American Shorthorn Association (ASA) employee Pat Cloutier was honored for her 48 years of service to the Shorthorn breed during the 2006 National Junior Shorthorn Show and Conference (NJSS).
DES MOINES, IOWA - (July 10, 2006) The National Shorthorn Lassie Queen Contest was held during the 2006 National Junior Shorthorn Show and Conference (NJSS), with Julie White of Missouri, crowned the 2006-07 National Shorthorn Lassie Queen and Rachel Johnson of Nebraska, crowned the Alternate Queen.
OMAHA - (July 10, 2006) At the 2006 National Junior Shorthorn Show and Conference (NJSS), held in Des Moines, Iowa, many scholarship recipients were announced. The Don Longley Memorial Scholarship was awarded to the following four deserving individuals: Whitney Haux of North Dakota, Ashley Hunter of Iowa, Justin Shoufler of Indiana, and Julie White of Missouri.
OMAHA - (July 10, 2006) At the 2006 National Junior Shorthorn Show and Conference (NJSS), held in Des Moines, scholarships were awarded to several deserving individuals. Of these scholarships recipients, Jason Zwilling, Viola, Ill., was awarded the John C. “Jack” Ragsdale Youth Scholarship.

OMAHA - (July 10, 2006) The 2006 National Junior Shorthorn Show and Conference (NJSS), was held in Des Moines, Iowa, June 19-24, 2006. At the NJSS, junior delegates took part in electing five new members to the American Junior Shorthorn Association (AJSA) Board of Directors, with the new and retiring board members electing the AJSA officers.
OMAHA - (July 10, 2006) At the 2006 National Junior Shorthorn Show and Conference (NJSS), held in Des Moines, Iowa, the American Junior Shorthorn Association (AJSA) Outstanding Junior Breeder was named. This year’s recipient is Sara Hunter, daughter of Pete and Cindy Hunter, Goodell, Iowa. Hunter’s involvement in the Shorthorn breed began early, allowing her the opportunity to accrue a long list of champions and a strong breeding program in which she is still actively involved.
DES MOINES, IOWA – (July 10, 2006) The 2006 National Junior Shorthorn Show and Conference (NJSS), held in Des Moines, Iowa, was a great success. A total of 355 youth brought 575 head of Shorthorns to the Iowa State Fairgrounds to participate in this annual summer event. Much of the success can be attributed to the generosity of many sponsors who donated to the show, and ultimately made the 2006 NJSS possible.
DES MOINES, IOWA – (July 10, 2006) Junior Shorthorn exhibitors arrived in Des Moines, Iowa, ready to step up to the challenge at the 2006 National Junior Shorthorn Show and Conference (NJSS). A total of 575 head of cattle were exhibited at the Iowa State Fairgrounds on June 23-24, competing in eight different shows. Dan Hoge, Mark Hoge, and Tyler Melroe evaluated these classes, with the coveted title of Grand Champion Shorthorn Female bestowed on Saturday afternoon.
DES MOINES, IOWA – (July 10, 2006) The 2006 National Junior Shorthorn Show and Conference (NJSS), held in Des Moines, Iowa, June 19-24, provided challenges, fun, and a host of memories for the 355 participants. Besides enjoying old time summer fun at America’s Midway, just part of the activities at the NJSS, a host of other competitive events were offered.
OMAHA – (May 5, 2006) The American Junior Shorthorn Association (AJSA) Junior PACE All-American program honored 133 junior members for points earned with their Shorthorn heifer projects during the 2005-06 show season. Beginning each year at the National Junior Shorthorn Show (NJSS), the Junior PACE All-American season also includes point accumulation at junior shows held throughout the country.
OMAHA – (May 5, 2006) Point-winning animals from the 2005-2006 show season are being honored by the American Shorthorn Association (ASA) as 2006 PACE All-Americans. The past show season included five major point events and eight invitational shows. Competition in the All-American rankings was deep this past year with several animals tallying points at more than five of the qualifying shows. The 2005 National Shorthorn Show was held at the 2006 National Western Stock Show with 231 head competing.
OMAHA – (May 5, 2006) The American Shorthorn Association (ASA) PACE Program honors individual show-winning animals exhibited by Shorthorn breeders at designated livestock shows. The program also places attention on the sires and dams of winners on an annual basis. In each competition, animals accumulate points based on their placing. At the end of the show season, awards are bestowed on individuals accumulating the most points.
OMAHA – (May 2, 2005) As part of a transitional period at the American Shorthorn Association (ASA), Julie K. Duis joins the organization as director of activities. She will work closely with the current activities director, Carrie Behlke, through August 1, 2006.
OMAHA – (April 15, 2006) To help members gain more exposure to the beef industry and expand Shorthorn horizons, the American Shorthorn Association (ASA) hosted Shorthorn University, a unique educational event/bus tour that traveled the state of Nebraska, April 7-9.
OMAHA – (April 15, 2006) With great enthusiasm, nine Shorthorn Lassies visited Omaha in early April for the first National Shorthorn Lassies Weekend. In this inaugural event, the Lassies came armed with ideas as well as questions about everything Shorthorn.
OMAHA – (April 8, 2006) More than 150 future leaders of the beef cattle industry, including six members of the American Junior Shorthorn Association (AJSA) Board of Directors, met in Starkville, Miss., March 16-19 to participate in the Youth Beef Industry Congress (YBIC).
OMAHA – (March 25, 2006) The 2006 National Junior Shorthorn Show and Conference (NJSS), scheduled for June 19-24, at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in DesMoines, will feature a number of new and exciting events for participants and their families. OMAHA – (March 1, 2006) Seeing a need to provide a new selection tool for users of Shorthorn genetics, the American Shorthorn Association (ASA) releases an independent directory of Shorthorn A.I. sires. More than 6,000 copies of the 2006 Shorthorn A.I. Sire Directory will be distributed by the ASA at trade shows, beef industry meetings, fairs, events and through direct mail. In addition, nearly 3,500 copies were included in the March issue of Shorthorn Country.
OMAHA – (February 10, 2006) In an attempt to gain more exposure to the beef industry and expand Shorthorn horizons, the American Shorthorn Association (ASA) is hosting Shorthorn University. This unique educational event is scheduled to take place April 7-9, 2006. Targeting Shorthorn breeders between the ages of 20 to 40, but open to anyone, the bus tour will travel the state of Nebraska and examine all segments of the beef industry.
FT. WORTH – (February 5, 2006) Shorthorn breeders paraded 92 head of Shorthorns – 74 females and 18 bulls – before judge Tim Loudon of Creston, Iowa. Once again, the Ft. Worth Stock Show hosted the American Shorthorn Association Southwest Major PACE Show, held Sunday, January 29, 2006, in Ft. Worth, Texas.
OMAHA – (February 1, 2006) To recognize those who go the extra mile in collecting performance information, the American Shorthorn Association (ASA) honors 15 ranching operations with its prestigious 2005-06 WHR Gold Breeders award.

OMAHA – (January 25, 2006) Frank Bigelow, O’Neals, Calif., was elected to a second-year term as president of the American Shorthorn Association (ASA) at the group’s annual meeting held in Denver, Colo., during the National Western Stock Show’s 100th anniversary celebration. As president, he presides over one of the oldest herdbooks in the nation. A California native, Bigelow is a third-generation Shorthorn breeder.
DENVER – (January 25, 2006) Shorthorn breeders paraded 27 pen bulls before a standing room only crowd at the 2006 National Western Stock Show (NWSS), held in Denver, Colo., on Saturday, January 14, 2006. Jim McDougald, a Hereford breeder from O’Neals, Calif., evaluated the bulls before selecting the champions.
DENVER – (January 25, 2006) Shorthorn breeders consigned 23 1/3 quality lots at the 2006 National Shorthorn Sale held during the 100th anniversary of the National Western Stock Show (NWSS). Held on Sunday, January 15, 2006, in the NWSS Beef Palace Auction Arena, Shorthorns joined other beef breeds in posting record-breaking sale averages.
DENVER – (January 25, 2006) Junior Shorthorn breeders from 17 states paraded 96 head before Jim McDougald, a Hereford breeder from O’Neals, Calif., on Sunday afternoon at the 2006 National Western Stock Show (NWSS), held in Denver, Colo. This show was the final event in the Junior PACE show schedule for 2005-06.
DENVER – (January 25, 2006) Shorthorn breeders from 25 states and one Canadian province paraded 257 head before judge Gary Buchholz, GKB Cattle Co., Bardwell, Texas, and his associate, Todd Herman, manager of Star Lake Herefords, Skiatook, Okla., during the 2006 National Western Stock Show. The show took place over two days, Monday and Tuesday, January 16-17, 2006. Both judges were overwhelmed by the quality presented and commented on the breed’s strengths throughout the day.
